Yanuca day trip
Sunday 25th July 2016
Sunday is a day of rest in Fiji, but for our volunteers it was far from that. We began our adventure at 9am and departed the Coral Coast, bound for Yanuca Island via speed boat. The journey to the island was an adventure in itself. The boat was travelling at a rate of knots which made for a very bumpy but exciting ride to our destination.
Yanuca Island Resort and the Island is nothing short of paradise, located only a stones throw from the main island of Viti Levu, the resort is like the setting out of Gilligan's Island and has to be one of the best places to axis the world class lefts of Frigates Passage (for surfers).
When we arrived on the island we used the morning to spend time exploring the ocean beds and mesmerising coral with our snorkels, whilst some of the guys chose to soak up the sun in the comfort of a hammock.
We had a BBQ lunch at midday, this consisted of steak, chicken and some vegetables - it was truly delightful.
Our afternoon instalment took us for a hike up to the look out point on the cliffs. This was in itself a physical challenge, scaling some steep climbs in the relentless sunshine. It took the group around 25 minutes to reach the top, and when we did, it was worth all the the exertion we used in the process of the climb. One word - WOW.
The view was breathtaking and unlike anything we had seen before, stunning.
Today was another example of the bond that our group have formed, there is a positive togetherness and willingness to support one another when ever required.
We finished the day by having a fish supper back at the house whilst we reflected upon another outstanding day - it was truly brilliant.
Tomorrow our volunteers will begin their work placements at Ratu Filise School, this is something that we are really looking forward too.
