  • Leadership
  • Adaptability

You now may ask the question, how can volunteering abroad with Travel Teacher help me improve these skills?  Lets break them down for you!

Communication Skills

Communication is vital in everyday life, but being able to communicate effectively is an even powerful tool at your disposal.  Embarking on an volunteering project with Travel Teacher, you will be exposed to diverse cultures and communities, of which do not speak English as a first language.  Your role as an Impact Assistant will be to teach and inspire students to succeed in education and everyday life - this will mean you will have to ensure that your communication methods are effective and that you are able to deliver instructions enabling students to understand you clearly.  This would also lead to another skill which we will talk about later - adaptability!  After you experience with us, you will be highly efficient in intercultural communication allowing you to be highly effective when utilising this skill back in your home country.

Problem Solving

Volunteering abroad will require you at times to think on your feet.  As an Impact Assistant you will be supporting a local teaching in the classroom, there may be an occasion where you are called upon to lead parts of the session or even deliver an activity to a different group, this will require you to be flexible in your approach and to display creativity and innovation.

 Working as a team

Team work

Part of volunteering abroad with Travel Teacher will mean that you are introduced to new surroundings.  You will be living amongst a local community along with the rest of our volunteers.  You will be many miles away from home which will require the group to be supportive of one another, ensuring that you are able to adapt to your new surroundings. You will be required to work together at times to carry out tasks/duties whilst in school on your placement including team teaching.  You will not only be working with people from the UK or our home country - you will be working with people from all walks of life, and showing that you are able to work in a team no matter what the circumstances is a huge asset to your personal employability.

Leading groups / individuals, inspiring them to learn and develop both socially and academically you will be a role model for the students and set high expectations of them whist in learning.  There will also be opportunities for you to practice these skills whilst on our expedition, you may be required to lead an activity or help with a decision making process.  Leadership skills are highly sought after by employers and having some excellent examples of these from you experience with Travel Teacher will help you standout from the crowd.
