Travel Teachers global engagement projects combine education and exploration, allowing volunteers to engage in meaningful travel whilst having the opportunity to immerse themselves deep within local culture and authentic communities. So what is an impact expedition? Lets start with some definitions:
Impact - 'have a strong effect on someone or something.'
Expedition - 'a journey undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose, especially that of exploration.'
Our volunteers will play a key role in addressing the needs of the students, school and wider community. As a volunteer you will assist in the classroom and provide vital teaching support for groups and individuals who require their own individual needs to be met. A huge challenge which our schools are faced with in The South Pacific is the teacher to student ratios. The numbers of students in each classroom are very high, meaning that all students will not get the required attention and support that they need to succeed in their own education. Having the added resource of our volunteers provides some welcome support and relief to teachers in our schools. Whilst on project you will volunteer for up to 4 hours per day.
In addition to making impact in your teaching role, the other half of your day will be spent embarking on a cultural journey with your group and field leaders (which include members of the travel Teacher team, and local people). Our expedition is designed to broaden your horizons and provide you with a unique insight into local life. Travel presents many opportunities for learning both about yourself and the wider world. We have developed an off the beaten track itinerary which allows our volunteers to immerse themselves deep within the authentic roots of the country they are visiting.
You will develop confidence whilst integrating with locals, you will display intercultural communication skills when socialising with members of the community. You will also be required to work as part of a team, and at times be robust and respond to challenge. All of these transferable qualities are essential ingredients which allow you to contribute effectively as a member of society and be a positive influence on those around you.
Not only will the expedition be a catalyst for skill development, you will visit some unique parts of the countries and engage in some outstanding activities. The journey that you will embark on is of holistic benefit and will leave you with lifelong memories.
Travel is really important for the human mind, allowing us to step outside of our comfort zone and adapt to new surroundings, it provides us with a new sense of focus, stimulation and leaves you wanting more once your journey has ended.
Travel Teachers Impact Expedition is certainly life changing, not only for our volunteers but also the young people, local communities who we support and also the teachers at our partnered schools.
We hope that this answers the question of - What is an Impact Expedition?
If it doesn't, we would love to hear from you or even welcome you on one of our journeys soon so you are able to find out first hand!
We still have places available for projects this summer, you can check out our project destinations below.
