Why Jordan is giving volunteering abroad a second shot.
Jordan is from Newport on the isle of Wight and was encouraged to apply to volunteer with Travel Teacher by a group of friends already embarking on the program. Jordan has a previous experience of volunteering in Kenya, teaching English to young students and she hopes to be able to regain confidence in an environment out of her comfort zone.

Reasons for applying?
I’m going to be completely honest in saying my first time volunteering abroad was an absolutely nightmare. So my reason for applying with Travel teacher is to give the whole experience a second shot. I’ve always wanted to volunteer so it’s safe to say that I was gutted when I hated my first experience so I’m really looking forward to trying again being older and possibly a tad wiser!
Initial thoughts on the concept of travel teacher?
So my initial thoughts on Travel teacher was “wow this is too good to be true” the experience is a once in a lifetime and to be honest helping people along the way is such an amazing thing to experience. Volunteering has always caught my attention and it has always been something I wanted to do, so when my friend told me about travel teacher and the experiences that come with it it was a no brainier.
How do you feel knowing that you are going to be impacting a global community?
The thought that you are going to be making an impact is just amazing, there is something about the fact that you are helping someone and no matter what they are always going to remember that. My first experience although a disaster it was still the most amazing feeling to be helping and making an impact on a community. Your presence alone is impacting their lives, we have so much knowledge to share and it’s the best feeling to be able to pass that on.
What does it mean for your personal development?
My personal development will be massive, as I’ve got older I have grown as a person. There is still much more growing to be done and an experience like this is the way to do it! Volunteering is something that not many people get to experience and the ones that do always say how life changing it is, so for me personally this is going to be massive.
What will you get from this experience?
I will get so much from this experience I will get life long memories, friends, and much much more. But mostly I will get a great sense of joy that in some way I have helped and impacted on a community and nothing beats that feeling. During an experience like this you will discover more about yourself, your strengths and weaknesses.
How will this help you in the future?
Hopefully in the future I will gain the confidence to carry on volunteering and also helping others whether its abroad or not. But mainly it will help me because I will become a different person because of it, a better person, stronger person and more confident person.
What do you feel are the main benefits of volunteering with Travel Teacher?
The main benefits about travel teacher is that they are a very supportive company. When I first signed up I had some major concerns about volunteering because of my first experience, but once I started talking to Matt about it he totally put my mind at ease and convinced me that it was going to be a lot better, I’m now extremely excited about starting in July!
